COVID-19 RULES OF PLAY
Dear Member,
Please read the following regarding the current COVID-19 situation.
We have reviewed the guidance given by the Government and the LTA with regards to being able to resume play on our courts, and we are
pleased to say that as from Saturday 16th May 2020 our courts will be open for restricted play.
Actions we have taken:-
Access to the hut is forbidden. Only committee members, when deemed absolutely necessary, will be able to gain access to the
hut.
Membership of the 2019/2020 season has been extended indefinitely at no further cost. This will be reviewed as restrictions ease. Court
use will be restricted to members only.
Members will be able to open the courts using the membership key from the 2019/2020 season. This key will also enable access to the front
area of the hut, where a first aid box has been made available if needed. Members should NOT enter this area unless first aid is needed.
A supply of alcohol hand sanitisers has been ordered, but these may not arrive until the end of the month. In the meantime, all players
must bring and use their own hand sanitisers.
The court nets have been fixed at the correct height and the net winders have been removed. Players should not attempt to adjust the net
height. If a problem arises with the nets please inform a member of the committee.
The bench has been removed from the court to avoid contact.
In anticipation of increased demand for court use, and to minimise the possible gathering of players waiting to play, we have introduced
an online booking system on a trial basis. Members are requested to please use this form to make a booking before turning up to play. This form can be accessed by clicking this link: https://form.jotform.com/201334386960355. The form asks for your name, email address
and phone number. You then simply choose the date and time you wish to play and hit the “submit” button. Playing times are in one hour slots, but allowing for a 10 minute gap between bookings to help
maintain social distancing. Should you wish to cancel a booking later, simply choose “edit submission” in the confirmation email you would have received, click on your booking and hit “submit”. This
is on a trial basis so please bear with it and let a member of the committee know if you experience any problems.
In line with official guidance, all players must comply with the following:
Before leaving home and on return, wash your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds, or use an alcohol gel.
Bring your own hand sanitiser with you and use regularly.
Bring the minimum amount of your own equipment with you, and do not share with others.
Bring your own tennis balls and these must be clearly marked, e.g. with your initials.
Ensure you take all of your belongings with you when you leave, and do not leave anything on court.
Please ensure you leave at your allotted time so that the court is empty for the next players. Of course, on doing so if there are then no
players to come on you may continue play. Common sense rules should apply.
Avoid touching court gates, fences, gate posts, etc., as much as you can.
Singles only play unless all players are from the same household.
Maintain social distancing as much as you can, avoid changing ends or change ends at opposite sides of the net.
No handshakes or high fives.
If the other court is in use avoid chasing down balls; ask players to hit them back for you.
Return balls from another court by kicking or hitting them back. Do not pick them up.
I apologise if the above all sounds a bit “don’t do this, don’t do that”, but if we all follow the guidelines then we can start to enjoy
some tennis, and hopefully these restrictions will be lifted sooner rather than later.
Mike Tyler, Chairman, on behalf of the committee.
